I've been on a lower fat/low calorie diet for a number of months now, but it seems like since about a month ago it hasn't been working, like my body is storing everything and I can't get pounds to come off anymore, no matter how low my caloric intake is. And I exercise from 20-60+ minutes per day. (yesterday i only had 1300 HEALTHY calories and worked out more than usual, but today I woke up and i was 3 pounds heavier) :[
I've heard about Alli, the weight loss pill, and I really think that it could help me. I understand how it works and everything but I'm not sure if it's safe. Because all other weight loss pills are recalled for being harmful, after they've been out for a while.
My mom is SO against weight loss pills because she thinks they're all bad and unsafe, so how can I get this Alli without her knowing, or how can i convince her to get it? Will pharmacies sell over-the-counter pills to minors? I can't even drive.
If not alli, can you please reccomend some other weight loss pill/supplement that might help me?
ps: i know i'm just 14, but my body has finished developing and i'm as tall as i'm ever going to be. so that might be a factor?
I recommend just exercising because weight loss pills are unhealthy enough for you. If it's over the counter, there are ways to get it then, such as paying someone who is 18 to get it for you. But i still think you should stick to exercise, if you really do exercise 20-60 minutes a day, you should see results within a month. Exercising makes you sexy and toned, weight loss pills just makes you lose body fat and look weak. [ TheWallflower's advice column | Ask TheWallflower A Question ]

Diet pill usually do not work, however Alli was a perscription drug for many years before the FDA decided it would be sold over the counter. I would suggest talking to your doctor about losing weight, and even asking their opinion on this drug. Then if they say it would be alright to use, go ahead.
Don't go behind your mother's back to get this, it will only make her mad when she finds out, and she will find out. Ask her to help you make healthier choices when it comes to eating, or ask her to go on walks with you instead. [ *Kate*'s advice column | Ask *Kate* A Question ]
ammo answered Monday June 18 2007, 4:00 pm: I did a quick read up on the Alli pill and although they are ot restricting sales to minors (that is, not asking for ID) they do advise it NOT be used by anyone under the age of 18. I strongly suggest if you want to use it you at least consult your family doctor about it first to make sure you'll be able to do so safely. Also, it will depend on your curent weight too. If you are overweight then you may gain some advantage from taking it but if you're not and all you want to do is tone up (as such) then I would strongly be against you taking it. It would just be a waste of money. The drug is also ONLY effective as part of a healthy diet and xercise program. IT WILL NOT WORK ON ITS OWN! It's very important you know that. If you are not loosing much at all at the moment give yourself some time, you won't notice differences overnight. Even with this Alli pill it can take up to 6 months to notice any changes.
Your mom has good reason to be concerned with diet pills since most do more harm than good but Alli seems to be relatively safe (at least for now). I'm not sure how you would get it behind your moms back, if that's even a good idea at all. It would make sense to have your moms blessing in taking them but I will leave that at your discretion.
As for trying to convince your mom that might be your best bet. I think talking to your doctor, as I said, with your mom there would be a good thing to do. But bare in mind here that he/she may even advise against you taking them and if that's the case you should bare in mind that they would only do so if they thought it was for a good reason. Other than that there's lots of information about the pill online (since it's the first of it's kind that's been allowed to be sold over the counter) so you should be able to show your mom a lot of informationregarding it and as to it's safety. :] Hope I was able to help a little.
