Summers Here and I Don't Know What To Do With It.

Question Posted Saturday June 16 2007, 10:32 pm

Well every summer I hang with friends and do random stuff. Always fun.. right? Well im now starting to like act like my friends which isnt a good thing because sometimes, there mean so i've been spreading my wings and breaking apart and have a whole new group of friends.. well I like scheduels.. they keep me busy so im not eating and not gaining weight. I wanna lose weight and look cmpletely diffrent for next year. I have an Ablonge and have an opertunity to go to curves with my mom and im 14 and weigh 214 pounds which is mostly in my stomach. I know im ganna be swimming and walking the town with my friends but I dont thinks thats ganna be enough so i was wondering how many miles I should walk a day and how many crunches. I wanna atleast be able yto see my toes by the end of this summber which is gunna be a challange and what kind of food i should stay away from and what foods i should try. Im a size xL in most shirts and want to be medium by the end of the summer so anything would REALLY be helpful.
Thanks..
Katie

Hey!
First of all, im not sure if this is what you meant, but dont stop eating completely. I hope that is not what you were implying. I am 14 too. Hmmm. Swimming is VERY good for you to do, it excersices all of your muscles without putting as much stress on them because water makes you seem weightless. As for walk/jogging, you should set goals each day or every other day. For instance, on the first day you could walk to a certain point (not very far) and then the next day go a little further, then a little further... etc. One thing that we learned in fitness is to do one excersice one day and then another excersice the next day.

Food is a tough one at this age. I am 14 and I have tried to go on diets too before. It is VERY hard because my mom does all of the grocery shopping and all of the cooking so I cant really choose what we are eating. But something you can do is like when you go out to eat, choose something healthy, or when you are going to eat dinner, instead of eating the main dish eat only side vegetables (if they are offered). I wrote a list of foods you should eat and foods you shouldnt.

FOODS YOU SHOULD NOT EAT
1. White potatoes
2. white bread
3. white rice
4. brownies, cookies, cake
5. mayonnaise
6. refined sugar
7. anything that has in the ingrediants; enriched bleached flour, or hydrogenated corn syrup.
8. soda
9. cereals
10. doughnuts

Foods you should eat
1. vegetables
2. fruits lots of fruits
3. peanuts, cashews, almonds (plain)
4. beans
5. water
6. natural juice
7. pretzals
8. milk
9. sandwiches with tomatoes and lettuce. NO MAYO.
Thats all I can think of right now but I think you get the idea. I also made a schedule since you said you do well with those.
Of course you will probably have to change around times and whatever because you will go to bed, get up, eat meals, all at different times than I do.
This is my schedule by the way : )

8:15- wake up, get dressed, shower
9:00- eat a healthy breakfast (fruit and whole wheat bagel
10:00- I do chores, anything my parents want me to do for them.
11:00- I go outside, go to the pool, or call one of my friends.
1:00 - I eat a healthy lunch (sandwich or soup/salad with fruit)
2:00 I go to the gym sometimes either that or go back to the pool/outside
3:00 I usually come inside, watch tv or play computer for a couple hours :)
5-8- eat dinner, chores, whatever. we usually dont have a set time for dinner so I dont really have a specific time. And for dinner I have... whatever my mom makes for me.
9:00 I sometimes watch tv and during the commercial breaks I do crunches the WHOLE time. It helps.
10:00-11:30 - do whatever!
11:30 i go to sleep.

Of course I am not THIS scheduled, this is just a guideline for me and thought that you might like to follow it as well. I spent alot of time on this so that i could help you so let me know at the end of the summer how you are doing!!

Happy summer and good luck! Acetrace92

First of all, NO diet will work without exercise. I'm serious, because I used to try ANYTHING to lose weight, but nothing worked until I started to do some good old-fashioned running. That being said, here are some tips for both diet and exercise that I really hope will help:

1. If you are only concerned about weight loss, quantity is more important than quality. Cutting out junk food is almost impossible, so instead, eat those donuts in very small doses. However,
2. If you are concerned about your overall health as well as your weight (which you should be), keep track of the junk food you eat, and try to eat healthy things to make up for the junk food. If I mess up by eating an entire pint of ice cream, I will then not allow myself any other food until I eat a carrot first. Or a mango. Or some fruit or vegetable.
3. Walking is good, but running is better. If running bores you, find a sport or game where you move around a lot. Also, exercising needs a routine. Start playing tennis with a friend every Tuesday, for example. Or jogging a mile every Monday and Thursday night.
4. Eating fat does not make you fat. Instead of looking at calories and fat content, focus on eliminating carbohydrates and sugars. Those are what create fat. Which brings me to number 5...
5. SWITCH TO WATER. ALL THE TIME. Sodas and all sugary drinks (even juice) are the biggest enemy to weight loss. Avoid them at all costs.

That's all. Good luck.
