Medical Costs

Question Posted Wednesday June 13 2007, 10:02 pm

Hey there, you mentioned that you work for a medical office.

Anyways, I live in San Diego and my dad was recently taken to the hospital. He passed out while driving, drove his car off the road, destroyed the car, and was taken to a hospital in an ambulance. He's fine and everything and will most likely make a full recovery.

however, he needs to stay in the hospital for a week and he needs back surgery to insert a plate inside his back. Would you happen to have an estimate for the cost of all this and how much insurance should cover?

Oh, and we also live in san diego, if that helps.

Well I can definitely say that the ambulance ride was necessary. Since he was not conscious & could not safely get to the hospital on his own, his insurance should definitely pick that up. I cannot see him paying a dime for the ambulance ride, period.

I don't do hospital billing, so I'm really sorry I can't even help you there. I would say it depends on what plan he is on with UHC.

Since he is covered with insurance, I wouldn't worry about TOO much coming out of your pocket. I'm almost sure the insurance will pick up most of it. I'd call the number on the back of his United Healthcare card & talk to a customer rep. They will be able to tell you his benefits/ what is covered/ what isn't, a rough estimate of what you'll owe, etc.

Sorry I couldn't be that much about that.
