drivers ed

Question Posted Sunday June 10 2007, 8:12 pm

I start the class part of drivers ed tomorrow. I am homeschooled, and will be going with public school kids. Basically the kids I would be going to school with. I went with them until 2 years ago, I still keep in touch with everybody, but all the ones that I know have already taken it or won't be taking it the week I will. I'm super nervous. I know I won't know anybody, and I'm super shy and self-concious.

How many kids are usually in those classes?
What do they do on the first day?
What will it be like?

Thanks.

In my class there were 40 kids. On the first day they basically just go over the rules and such. You don't drive on the first day. Don't worry about the other kids. Theres nothing to be nervous about. You'll probably end up making new friends too :]

There are usually 15-30 kids in a Driver's Ed class.

In my class, the teacher highlighted the main points of the textbook and showed us videos. We took tests on some days, and some projects were assigned.

To be honest, Driver's Ed is a joke. Believe me when I say that it is very boring, and many kids will try to sleep during class. The class is not very hard, but do the work that is assigned. If you have projects, do them in advance. They only take 10-20 minutes and the teacher basically gives you a 100% if you did the project.

The tests, on the other hand, are more difficult than I thought they would be. I studied for about 2 hours the night before each test. I passed Driver's Ed with a B (not that your grade matters. It only matters if you pass).

Don't worry about the other kids. A lot of them are lonely like you are. Not much talking and socializing goes on during Driver's Ed anyways, so don't worry about feeling lonely and awkward.

Hey.
Well, it really depends. I'm not sure where you live or how many drivers ed places you have in your city. But, I live in San Antonio & there's plenty of Drivers Ed places to go. But, I went to one that was directly across from my school, so on average there were usually twenty kids in the class. Maybe a little less. I know that a lot of the kids in the class didn't have anyone to talk to. So, I'm sure you'll have nothing to worry about, with the whole "getting to know" people factor. On the first day, we took notes on the classroom rules and just the basic stuff we'd be doing in drivers ed. We did introduce ourselves to the people at our table, but your table setting might be different, so I'm not sure. But, you're there to learn how to drive, not make friends. So don't worry about it. :]

The class size is usually the size of a regular school classroom (this will vary for different schools) I'm in it right now and my class has anywhere from 15-25 students.

Every class is different, every teacher teaches differently. On your first day you'll probably spend more time learning about your teacher and classroom expectations, then you'll get right into it.

Drivers Ed is an independant class so you don't have to worry about having to know someone for partners or anything like that.

You have nothing to be nervous about. Just walk in there like you own the place :D
