You can even buy cheap sunglasses to hand out as party favors; this will help put everyone in the pool party mood right from the start. Also, if your party is during the daytime, having sunscreen available for guests is a must.
Decorations. Every pool party needs decorations to help create the appropriate atmosphere. Sea shells and fishnet are two items that can be strewn about on tables, and tiki torches are always popular, especially if the party involves older guests and may go past sunset. Another idea is to partially fill balloons with water and then inflate them with air. They can then be set in the pool to float around and be played with. Colorful streamers and lots of lights will also do wonders for your party's aura.
Music. What is a party without music? For a pool party, it depends on the crowd that will be attending, but Hawaiian music is always a good bet. If you are looking for something more lively, the Beach Boys or other surfing-themed music might be the way to go. Again, be courteous to your neighbors and watch the volume.
Games and Activities. Even if your guests are having a great time just splashing around the pool and chatting it up, it is essential to have a few organized activities planned. Here are some suggestions.
-Cannonball contest
-Water gun or water balloon fight
-Dancing, if age appropriate
-Play Marco Polo
-Out-of-pool games, such as: badminton, volleyball, croquet, or whatever you have room for
heyimcaro answered Sunday June 10 2007, 12:25 am: maybe have contests with like a panel of judges and small, silly prizes for each, such as biggest splash, best handstand, long standing handstand, sillest jump, etc.
maybe make it sort of a hawiian theme, with lei's for each guest, tiki torches around the pool, grass skirts for when people aren't swimming, stuff like that.
put out cute little umbrellas for the drinks, maybe make some punch or something tropical.
