Question Posted Thursday May 31 2007, 4:16 pm

I am going in to computer programming as my career. I am also getting a laptop but I am not sure what to get as I need to be able to expand my horizon in order to program. I really dont want Vista b/c everyone I have talked to says it sucks. Please dont refer me to websites as I have already tried many of them. I need to now specifics on what type of notebook to get and please dont answer if you do not know what you are talking about. Thank you.

What I would suggest, if you don't need your computer right away, is to wait until the boxing day sales in December. That's when I got mine, and it was really inexpensive.

Don't spend a ton on a really expensive laptop. If you're programming, you really don't need anything complicated.

If you're interested in programs to get, try Microsoft Visual Studio. It does Visual Basic (which is really important) and C++. If you're looking at C, anything will do; you can program in Notepad, and download a compiler.

I'm not sure what you want, since you can program on anything. Windows 95, vista, xp, linux, OS X, it doesn't matter. You can program on the computer you're using to read this. If you're looking to expand your horizons, you can install ubuntu linux:

I buy most of my hardware from newegg, you'll find a good price there.
