I just saw it on youtube, (GO youtube!) anyways what I think of the movie. its about Donnie who has two chooses, 1: live but go though losing your friends and famliy. or 2: die and dont let your love ones die but you.
Donnies number was up and God gave him the choose. i think Granny Death had that happen to her and she choosen life. she lost her loved ones and now she die inside,(hints the name. The point about Frank is the futuer ghost to Donnie and telling him that if you do those bad things you will fellow the path of killing me for running over your girlfriend. when that happens he realized he can change it. to not let every one die but him.
This exspalnes to you about how you can change your way of going on a differnet path and how death can change your life and to others. Donnie was a troubbled kid, and he had a choose. he made that choose at the end and now he is RIP.

well that what i think....watch it again if you want.

In my opinion, it teaches us not to be scared of traumatizing things like death, or the world being over. It's teaching us to accept the things we've got.

Frank is hard to say about because he was a figment of Donnie's imagination [or maybe he was from somewhere else] whenever Donnie hallucinated. Frank basically told Donnie to do a whole bunch of bad things that Donnie actually does [when he sets that place on fire & floods the school]. In the end of the movie however, "Frank" runs over Donnie's girlfriend Gretchen & kills her. But then Donnie actually dies & him and Gretchen never meet.

It's really confusing & it's the type of movie you've gotta watch a few times to take in & understand. I hate movies like that, but this one was really good. I've been dying to see it and I finally did a few months ago, it's a great movie.

Actually, Frank is a real person. The Frank that Donnie talked to was actually from the future, and he wasn't real. Remember at the end the movie when the car ran over Gretchen? The man who came out was Donnie's sister's friend, Frank. The real Frank. Donnie shot him.

The meaning was to show what would happen if the world were to end. Roberta Sparrow's book showed how time would react to the end of the world, and she probably went through the same thing as well. Except she didn't die.

You might want to watch the movie a few more times. And watch it really good. It can be very confusing, and it took me a while to understand it myself. I probably still don't have it all, but I have a good idea.

I hope you will enjoy it more when you understand it. It's one of my favorite movies.

Donnie Darko is actually rather hard to interpret. I guess everybody sees it a different way.

I personally thought of it like this:

When the engine crashes through the ceiling Donnie is supposed to die. Because he doesn't he suffers through all of the events in the movie.

The "what-if" complex.

If Donnie lives - what does he experience?
If Donnie dies - what happens to his family/friends/school/community?

No, Frank was not real.

----

Go back and watch it a few more times.

Note: This is my personal opinion and I could be completely wrong.
