Make-Up

Question Posted Friday May 18 2007, 5:48 pm

Ok well I never wore make up before and I'm planning to wear make up on my graduation. But I got a few questions that need answers and advice:

Um..my parent's are spending enough money on the dress and shoes, etc so they're not spending money on make up that I'm only going to use once.

But I have a top of the line make-up kit that my aunt gave me for christmas two years ago (her work makes top of the line make up). Is it alright to use? i never opened anything. I'm just scared that it'll make me look bad or anything.

I'm asian, what colours should you suggest?

And what types of make up do you think i should use since I'm pretty sure many people put a lot of stuff on their face when they say they're wearing make up. Blush? Lip stick? Eye Liner? Mascara?

Um..I have this thing that looks like a giant version of eye shadow and the box is as big as my hand and is kinda the colour of my skin, what is it? Cover up? Blush? Face powder?

I don't know much about make up..just mascara, lip stick, and eye liner and I don't even know how to put any on!

And I cant' ask my mom..she beleives in natural beauty and she hasn't worn make up since her wedding!

pick a friend who wears make-up all the time (and wears it well), preferably one with similar skin to yours. take all the make-up you have to that friend and have her apply it or teach you how to. that's your best bet. if you don't have a friend like that, just practice yourself and use online tutorials or call your aunt. after all, she gave you the make-up.

some tips:
don't worry too much about eyeliner. you can practice a lot and figure it out, but it's kind of difficult to apply, especially if you're just doing one event. mascara is probably all you need.
since you're asian, don't use bright pink blush. you want to go with a shade with some olive or brown in it, mauve or really light pink brown.
unless your skin is terribly uneven, don't wear heavy liquid foundation. I have dry skin, so I use a tinted moisturizer on most days. see what you have and work with it, but don't apply it heavily. that giant eyeshadow you have is likely pressed powder. it goes all over your face as your first step of make-up if you have oily skin. it's kind of like foundation, but it works with the oils in your skin.
the look of your lips depends on whether or not you want to look natural or made up. a thin gloss or chapstick will look most natural. if you feel like you need to wear lipstick make sure you apply it over chapstick to keep it moist. try to match the color of your lips (for gloss) or go only slightly darker (for lipstick).
for eyeshadow? play with it. a lot depends on eye color. I have green eyes with little flecks of gold, so I wear a sheer gold eyeshadow. but then again, I barely wear any make-up.

if youve never opened it, the makeup should be just fine. since you never wear makeup, just stick to a little bit of blush on your cheekbones, eye shadow, and mascara. the color eye shadow you use should somewhat match the color os your dress. but, if your dress is a bold color such as red, hot pink, or even black, i'd stick to just a shimmery shadow. for example:for a blue dress, wear blue eyeshadow, but not too intense.

if you have light skin then go with light colors such as, light pink, and kinda light on the eyes.
but if you have dark skin, try going to earth tone colors. like brown, and black, more like darker.
