ADDITIONAL INFO YOU ASKED FOR: If you buy the Black Mac Book that is the most expensive with Apple Care before taxes it's 1,876 if you buy just their basic Mac Book it's 1,548 before tax.

Don't buy Microsoft Windows. It adds $500 to the price and is not worth it nor needed. You can create create MS Word Documents, read attachments and all of that with the operating system it comes with which is far better and easier to use.

What you need to get installed is called the IWORK program it comes with a program called Pages which serves as your Word Processor.

ORIGINAL ADVICE BELOW.

I think your friend is talking about Apple's new Leopard operating system. It's quite a ways off and was expected for June and then delayed by Apple if it's out by Chistmas I would be surprised.

Having said that go and buy your Mac Book now and don't worry about it. You won't regret it and it's a good time to get one because they've just increased the processor speed on all of their Mac Book Models. Regardless a Mac Book is the fastest and best laptop you can get and there's no viruses, pop-ups etc.

I own an IMAC and will never go back to Windows. What you ought to do before you go out and by your Mac Book is call 1-800-MY-APPLE and tell them what your friend said about a new operating system (Leopard I believe) and ask if you can upgrade to it later on. I'm sure you can.

Even without the new system that is coming current Mac Books and Imacs kick the heck out of anything you could buy. No I don't work for Apple, but I'm a proud owner of their computers.

The other thing you will want to do is buy from Apple their Apple Care 3 Year Warrenty and Protection plan. They'll fix anything for you and there will be times when you need 24/7 tech support while learning your Mac Book and OS X.

Check out Apple.com because they have actual stores in malls these days where you can actually sit down and experiment with Apple products before you buy them and ask important questions.

They don't get a commission at all (the sales-people) so they're brutally honest about what you need and don't need. Check Apple.com to see if there is a store in your area where they can answer all your questions about a new operating system or program.

The other thing I stress is do not buy your Apple Mac Book from Best Buy etc because their sales-people know zilch and will sell you an old model or a refurbished one banking on you not knowing your shit about Apple products.

If you call the 1-800-MY-APPLE number they'll build your laptop to your specifications (you can even order online) and load all the programs you want and give you the Apple Care plan with it. It's your safest way to buy your Mac Book in my humble opinion.

So, I say go for it as there has to be a way you can upgrade your operating system as well as memory. Talk to them at that phone number first and then make a decision on purchase.

Let me know ( hit my inbox) what you think of it when you get it because I can help you out with learning stuff on it.
