Ok so my school has had lots of head lice in it. I got checked a week and a half ago, but was OK. Recently, however, I've noticed something. My head hasn't been itching abnormally frequently. I scratch it from time to time, which is true always. However, I've noticed that sometimes when I scratch it, it hurts. Does this mean I have lice? Should I get checked again? I was going to ask the nurse to do so today, but there was other people in the nurses office and I didn't want to do so in front of them. What should I do? I kind of want to get checked anyway. That way, if I'm clear, I can be relieved, and if I'm not, I can at least do treatments to get rid of it ASAP. What should I do? Thanks for answering a kind of gross question...

Maybe you could put your name in and ask her to call you into her office when she's available? Head lice are not a sign that someone is dirty, by the way. They move from head to head and every race and socioeconomic class gets head lice. But I understand the stigma.
The tenderness when you scratch is probably not due to lice. It's probably just due to you thinking about lice and scratching your head more often. I am scratching and I haven't been exposed. We just do that in response to the idea of lice. But it never hurts to have it checked.
