Cellphones.

Question Posted Sunday April 22 2007, 6:32 pm

I'm looking to get a pre-paid cell phone. Here's what I need:

-Pre-paid
-Free nights and weekends (optional)
-free texting

I don't mind paying for the talking I do. It also needs to be a phone I can get at a store. Not ordered.

Thanks!!

I have alltel and it has all of that with the 70 dollar plan plus 700 anytime minutes. I shopped around before buying and that was the cheapest and easiest way to go.

Provided you're in the UK:

o2 offer a nice little pack on pre-paid packages where if you top up by £1- every month you will get 300 free txt messages. This can be changed for a number of other free 'gifts' instead though as well as o2 having a lot of other promotions going as well.

Orange offer the same deal with the added 2-4-1 cinema tickets every Wednesdays for participating cinemas which can be very helpful if you have a gf or a friend you want to go to the cinema with on a regular basis. Orange also offer free call time on certain pay and go packages but you will need to check at an Orange store about these.

Vodafone don't really offer any text messages as far as I know, but I am not certain onthis because I have not used my Vodafone sim in a very long time. If topped up though per month you will get free evening and weekend calls to any number and only pay for the first 3 mins of the call - after which the call will be free (up to an hour). After the hour is up you just hang up and call the person back. ;]

All these packages are available in their relative stores on the high streets and packages with phones can be pretty cheap (I think the cheapest I saw with a basic phone was about £40 or so) or you can buy just the SIM cards on their own for £5-10 per card (I personally have over 30 o2 SIM cards that havenot been opened as well as a dozen Orange SIM cards). Best thing is to check them all out at the stores, their salesmen are usually very eager to help. :]

Chances are you aren't going to find a pre-paid cellphone with free texting. They charge for every service - it's how they make their money.

My mom digs Virgin Mobile though, and I don't have any complaints.

So, good luck.
