salt water fish?

My boyfriend and I want to start a salt water aquarium, but we don't know what kind of fish we should get. Any ideas? or any ideas on what other pets are good for us? (we're both 17 and we don't live together, but we want to get a pet that's just ours)

I'm not stupid, I know that we have to get salt water fish. I just don't know what kind of salt water fish "go" with eachother. Also, if I wanted someone from a pet store to help me then I would go, but I want actual opinions instead of someone trying to sell me the most expensive pet..

maybe getting the same fish?.. like you know, those fish that in a "schoo".. maybe get a couple of those. you dont want fish that dont like each other and will eat each other.. lol.. sorry, i tryed.. hope i helped<3

and you asked about other pets. maybe one that can live with both of you.. like a pet you can take back and forth.. a hamster?.. or something along those lines..
