How can a person overcome jealousy?

Question Posted Saturday April 7 2007, 6:43 pm

Okay. 15/f. I have a guy friend...and he JUST got a girlfriend. And I never really liked him in that way. But now, since he talks about her IN MY FACE...And he ALWAYS does that these days, it annoys the SH*T out of me. OH MY GOSH. I just want to go over there...and tell her off or something. (the thing is...I don't like her that much). I'm jealous. I'll say it right away. And it's an icky feeling. How does one overcome it? Ugh...it's so gross!

Just tell him that you're happy for him, but you've heard enough. Don't worry, his relationship won't last forever, even though it might feel like it is. The best thing you can do is wait it out, and if you act uninterested when he brings her up, he'll get the picture.

Just let him know you're happy for him but you don't wanna hear about her. But remember that you've got it all, so you've got nothing to be jealous about.

The best way to get over jealousy is to remind yourself of all the wonderful things you have (i.e. a good friendship with this guy). I'm sure you don't like his girlfriend for a good reason, so odds are he's going to find out what that reason is and realize he's wrong. In the meantime, tell your guy friend that you're happy he's happy, but you'd rather not listen to him babble about her just because you don't get along with her very well. If he's a good friend, he'll stop.
