i live in the USA and my friends are going to europe for 8 days starting tomorrow. if they take their cell phones, will they still work? would they get reception?
uisforukelele answered Wednesday April 4 2007, 6:09 pm: their cell phones would only work if they had international plans, which are very expensive. they would not get reception without the plan because places around the world have different cell phone providers. so if your friends have cingular or whatever, they would not get reception from a european cell tower... unless they had the international plan, then they would. however, i went to australia (i'm from the us too) for three weeks and the cell phone charges per minute are outrageous so unless they have unlimited cash flow... i would stick to email. but yes, it is possible for cell phones to work, it just makes a huge dent in your pocket. i'd expect that they wouldn't have international plans on their phones, but you could ask them.
