They mark your belly button [where the hole's gonna be] & then they tell you to basically think about something different so you won't feel it. Then they just stick it through & put the ball on. After that, they tell you what you need to do to clean it & keep it from getting infection.
If they don't explain everything to you, then leave & go somewhere else because you'll probably get an infection. Also, make sure they open everything in front of you. [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]

Then they prepare the needle, and tell you to think about something else, and take a deep breath.
then they stick the needle through, and as long as you keep taking deep breaths, it doesnt hurt that bad. Then after they do that, they have to put the ball on, and thats probably what hurts the most, because its sensitive when you first get it done, so it still hurts a little.
It's a pretty quick process, when i got mine done i was in there for about a total of 10 minutes.
