Diet and exercise

Question Posted Tuesday March 27 2007, 8:48 am

So I'm deciding to go on an extreme diet and exercise plan in 1 week. I'm going on this plan for 2 weeks. I'll be hitting the gym at least 4 days a week for about 2 hours a day. And I'll be eating stuff like chicken alone without rice and bread with some butter. Will it work? I plan to eat 2 meals (breakfast and dinner alone).

how much lbs can I lose? I am 195lbs right now and I really want to lose about 8lbs. I want to lose more but if i lose about 8 my body will hopefully reshape and 'toughen' up!

Ok dont take offence, but this is not a good idea. I will explain why its bad, and then at the end I will include a link to a similar question if you want to work out a proper diet plan (if not, just ignore the link).

First off in fitness and weight loss, nothing is achieved very very quickly. To start with, you should never lose over 2lbs or so per week, any more is not healthy. Secondly if you do a crash diet, you will lose muscle more than fat, and this will result in anything but toughening up.

Eating rarely is also completely counterproductive in weight loss (see my link). Suffice it to say that your program of nutrient deprivation and rare meals will lead to your metabolism slowing down. This will hamper your weight loss efforts and, once again, your body will favour digesting muscle over fat.

Finally, when starting an exercise program its a good idea to ease into it and give your body time to adapt. There is no point to overtraining, that will only hamper your efforts. So, start with mild cardios and light weight rountines. Also to avoid injury btw.

Ok thats all the stuff you should not do (i.e. more or less the entire program unfortunately). Now here is a look into what you could do.

Check out my answer there, it should help give you some ideas.

Remember, you need to give yourself time for this. Results that last never come in a couple of weeks.

Good luck.
