Question Posted Thursday March 22 2007, 12:32 am

hey guys! well, i'm 14/f, and i'm really looking to loose some weight. i've been working out some, but i don't really want to tell my mom and dad that i'm going to try and loose some weight, because that kinda stuff is kinda embarrasing to me. i asked my mom if i could make a shopping list and go grocrey shopping with her, so i could pick out some of my own healty foods. on my list i already have 1. Honey Nut Cherios 2. Orange Diet ocean spray drink and 3.those 100 calorie pack things of Doritos. what else is healthy that i could pick up at a grocrey store, but tastes good, and isn't too obvious that i'm going to loose some weight? i don't really like salads too much, i've tried eating them but there just not for me. so i would really appreactiate the help!! my mom is going grocrey shopping this friday so anything before friday!! thanks!!!! <3 luv ya all much much!

hey! i am 13/f and i want to lose some wait too before summer starts! i made a workout plan for myself whcih you could do too. but dont push your self too much, like working out hard every day. i do workouts every second day and i think i will slowly lose some weight. take baby steps! .. so for the food. - eat lots of fruits and veggies , and if you arent into those make them fun, like fruit salads or maybe add some splenda sugar to them, eat yogurt and berries. they make a good combination together and its healthy! , have whole wheat bread instead of white! whole wheat may seem gross but you will get used to it and eventually like it. also have milk and oj!. so i hope it goes well and i hope my advice is usefull! ciao!

Ok, no offence, but your list so far is not very good. Nr1 and nr3 are not good for you, and in no way qualify as health foods (I have no clue what nr 2 is, been a while since i was in the US, but if it has nutrasweet chuck it out). nr1 has sugar added and nr 3 has plenty of bad fat. They qualify as empty calories and are therefore a total waste.

Good wholesome foods include things like:
Chicken, turkey, very lean beef, tuna, eggs/ egg whites, cottage cheese (particularly), oats (plain nothing added), whole wheat pasta, whole wheat bread, brown rice, potatoes, fruits of all sorts, veggies of all sorts.

A meal must be composed around a good protein source (e.g. the first things I listed up to and incl cottage cheese). Then you need a moderate carb source (e.g. a potato, 50g pasta) cooked in a good way... i.e. baked or boiled, not fried. Adding veggetables (also carbs but low on calories) is a good idea too.

Then, you need a small amount of good fat. This is found in: good oils (e.g. extra virgin olive oil, canola, flax, etc), olives, nuts of all sorts (unsalted, you want to keep salt content down in general), flax seeds, oily fish, etc.

So, now we have potential meals: Breakfast possibilities: 1. oats in skim milk, 2. A boiled egg, a few of extra egg whites (also boiled), a slice of whole wheat toast and some fruit
Main meals: 1. some sort of lean meat from list (say 100- 150 grams), 50g pasta/ 75g rice/ a potato, veggies
Late meals: 1. 200g cottage cheese, a small portion of nuts/ olives, an apple. 2. If you use protein shakes (not a bad idea), you could replace the cottage cheese with that.

Ideally I would try to fit in at least 4 meals a day, eating every 4 hours or so. And of course, be active and exercise.

Ok this was long. It gets to me a bit when I see the marketing gimmicks actually pay off. Those 100 cal packs are nothing more than a different way to sell crap that is bad for you. It still doesnt change the fact that it is crap.

Anyways, best of luck.

Edit: Like I said I dont know nr2. The main concept I was trying to get accross is that its not about calorie counting. The real question is where are those calories coming from, whether there are 100 or 1000 of them. Most often diet drinks are a pile of rubbish. In fact, nothing really beats water and one should rarely drink anything else.
