I don't get what web owners mean when they say do not hot-link or no direct linking. What is it exactly?
Is that like just say "my brushes are from here"
and just link that to the site?
What so bad about it?

Hot-linking/direct-linking would be linking DIRECTLY to that zip file. So:
stuff.com/brushes/brushes.zip would be directly linking to it. stuff.com/brushes.html would not be. The reason they don't want you to do that is because web site owners make money from advertising, if you link directly to the file, they don't make the money they deserve. You shouldn't direct link files that need to be downloaded; pictures are sometimes ok, but not if you plan them to be seen by a lot of people. [ theymos's advice column | Ask theymos A Question ]
