I had similar problem. I never had danced like that before when I went to my homecoming in my freshmen year. So this is what i did...

1. Watched and observe how other people danced
2. Waited till lot of people were dancing
3. talk to other friends in advance about dancing if possible

It kind of came naturally to me because when everyone's dancing and you are just having a good time, it will just come like it was in you :D

If you really want to go then go, have fun, if you think he will presser you in to doing things you dont want to ask your friends to meet you there
