Try to think of questions that will make him think, not just the normal "So do you like sports" and stuff like that. And if you know that he likes sports, ask him about his favorite team, or how to play football, guys feel like they are important when they try to explain how things work to girls

Hm try asking him questions about his personal life. For example, ask him about music, or sports. Try and see what he's into and see if you two have anything in common. Then, after you two have been talking for awhile, try asking him to a movie or to go bowling, or something he likes.
