Pregnant Women

Question Posted Monday March 5 2007, 11:35 pm

I wasn't sure what catagory to put this in but oh well...

Why do pregnant women crave things?

My nanna said that when she was pregnant with my aunty that she craved chillies, one of my work mates craved oranges and another person craved gerkins...?!?

Why is this?

You should check out this website:

I would think that the main reason that pregnant women crave different types of foods, is that they have a new person to nourish and provide for-their body simply needs more food and calories to provide for the baby. I'd like to think of it as someone who's really hungry, who can't stop thinking about different foods as a result.
I actually read on the above website, that women tend to crave different types of food, depending on nutritional deficiencies. So for example, a pregnant women who lacks a protein-rich diet, might suddenly crave red meat. It's almost like the body's way of signaling to get more of the nutrients that it, and the new baby, need to have.
