Girls naturally care about their appearance. Plus we're pretty vain. Guy's like to look bulky and muscular, girls like to look pretty and bathed. ;) Actually, I've seen this study almost 3x already that girls tend to look better / care more about their appearance when they're ovulating ... who would have known? :)

it was written in our DNA. we're naturally more conscious about appearance, so consequently we spend more time getting ready and cleaning up. it's just a part of who we are, and it's not always a bad or good thing.
