uisforukelele answered Monday February 19 2007, 8:55 pm: i definitely agree with winterromance. they mean the same thing. as a matter of fact, i was wondering about this the other day with this example: "i could care less" or "i couldn't care less" when in fact, they mean the same thing. it just depends on how you feel comfortable saying it or how you've heard it said before. i'm from texas and we have all kinds of weird sayings so sometimes things like that don't really stick out in my mind. but yeah, they mean the same thing, it just depends on how you want to say it. like coke, soda, pop, soda pop, soft drink... it all means the same thing :) [ uisforukelele's advice column | Ask uisforukelele A Question ]
winteromancex answered Monday February 19 2007, 5:07 pm: Nothing at all. they mean the exact same thing. Some just prefer to use can't over can.
can is actually a less positive form because its saying that they might not be able to find one where as can't is saying that they will be able to find one or that its less likely to not find one than to find one.
See what I'm saying? Its confusing i know. lol and everyone below me is WRONG! haha
Durene answered Monday February 19 2007, 5:02 pm: let's see if we can find a tree: that means to like... go and see if you'll find a tree! lol pretty simple.
let's see if we can't find a tree: that means to go out and see if there arent any trees around. like if you were in an area with no trees, but someone maybe didnt believe there were no trees at all there, you'd say "lets see if we cant find a tree" so like you'd go out and look.. and find that there are no trees.
