some kind of hair balm??

After I got my hair cut, blown out, and straightened the girl like rubbed or ran this kind of gel or balm or something through my hair. The people always do that to me when I get my haircut and it makes it SOOOOOOOOO soft. I asked her what it was after she did it and all she said was "it's silk." I looked it up on the interenet and I couldn't find anything. Does anyone know what it might be? Also, what is the shampoo they use in salons? I want to know cause it also makes my hair soooooooooo soft and smooth and shiny.

Also, is there any kind of product I can use to protect my hair from heat, like a flat iron and blow dryer, that won't make my thin hair look greasy or weighed down?.
