Recently I have been on a diet. It hasent been working really effectively because around noon, I get bad cravings that are extremely hard to control. So, I give in, and eat. Then I feel horrible because I have ruined my diet. I am not overweight, 115 pounds, but I am hating this craving! What gives? How can I stop this?
Help
What really helps me is to have a packet of oatmeal for breakfast [by the way, one packet of oatmeal has about 50-100 calories, which is almost nothing!]. Then I bring apple slices to school and eat them at around noon [one apple has about 60-80 calories. Again, this is almost nothing, but it's a great snack].
Then I eat lunch at around 1:30. For lunch, I eat fruits and vegetables. You have so many options for lunch that have low calories. Broccoli, spinach, green beans, salad, celery, carrots, and asparagus all have a low amount of calories. You can also try those new soups that only have 100 calories per can.
So if you add all of that up, that's about 280 calories just from breakfast, a snack, and lunch. Then you can be more lenient with dinner and snacks in the afternoon.
Another low calorie food that I suggest is a whole bag of kettle corn (about 130 calories).
blwinteler answered Monday February 12 2007, 8:13 pm: A craving is usually the body's way of saying something is lacking. If you are not overweight, then listening to your cravings is a good idea. A good diet for you would include 2000-2500 calories spread out over 3 reasonable meals and a couple (2-3) good sized snacks. Eat something every 3 hours or so. Make sure you get a good balance of calories, carbs, and protein. When you get an urge to eat in the middle of the day, try some fruit and cottage cheese. That is very well balanced and very good for you, so it should tame the cravings. Other than that, your weight sounds very reasonable and I don't see why you would be on a diet. It is obviously not working right for you if you can't give in every now and then without feeling bad.
So, to sum up: You probably don't need a diet, unless your doctor has told you to. Cravings tell you that you need something, so don't ignore them. Eat balanced meals every few hours to stay healthy and not feel so hungry. Also, don't skip breakfast. That charges your metabolism every day. You do not need to stop the cravings, you need to figure out what you are doing that is causing them. [ blwinteler's advice column | Ask blwinteler A Question ]
