when i took it i wasn't on birth control because i was in like 8th grade. they may have changed the rules tho it was a while ago. i don't think its guaranteed per say, but its a very very high risk.

Even if you choose abstinence as your primary birth control, they still write a prescription for birth control.

You don't have to take the birth control if you stay abstinent. However, if you become sexually active, you MUST be on a primary (usually birth control pills) and a secondary form of birth control (usually condoms).

It is IMPERATIVE that a woman does not become pregnant while on Accutane. It can cause an unborn baby to die or severe birth defects.

Feel free to ask me any questions about Accutane. I'm take it.

Well, I didn't know the answer to your question, so I did a search. I found an fda page that had some info that honestly made me question whether it is worth taking or not.

[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

It says:
"You must not become pregnant while taking Accutane, or for 1 month after you stop taking Accutane. Accutane can cause severe birth defects in babies of women who take it while they are pregnant, even if they take Accutane for only a short time. There is an extremely high risk that your baby will be deformed or will die if you are pregnant while taking Accutane. Taking Accutane also increases the chance of miscarriage and premature births."

"While you are taking Accutane, you must use effective birth control. You must use 2 separate effective forms of birth control at the same time for at least 1 month before starting Accutane, while you take it, and for 1 month after you stop taking it. You can either discuss effective birth control methods with your prescriber or go for a free visit to discuss birth control with another physician or family planning expert. Your prescriber can arrange this free visit, which will be paid for by the manufacturer."

It also says that there have been instances of depression and even suicide that may have been caused by this drug. There are also a lot of other things you should and should not do while taking it. So, unless you REALLY need it (your doctor will tell you), it looks like something to avoid.
