okay i usually don't like talking about this, but a lot of people are concerned so i thought i would. for the past few months i haven't been eating the best. i usually have special K every morning for breakfast, snacks & yogurt for lunch, and for dinner whatever my parents make. that's about it. i see it as enough food to survive, but everyone always makes comments & says how it isn't. i think you should eat enough to survive. but anyways, people say/think i shouldn't be doing that & i should be eating more. i'm not really fat, but im not that skinny either. im a female, 5'9, and 144 lbs. to me, that's kind of a lot, but idk. everyone is saying im pushing myself to an eating disorder. i do exercise 5 days a week, but i feel that if i don't exercise or eat something i shouldn't, i feel extremely guilty & can't take it. it bothers me a lot. any advice you could give me?? anyone in this situation??
I don't think you neccessarily have an eating disorder. People say that about me too. They expect me to eat like 10 cheeseburgers and 40 cookies for lunch. And if you don't eat that much, you're considered, "anorexic." It's not being anorexic, it's just eating right. Your eating habits aren't too bad but there's room for improvement. Good Job on eating breakfast, thats very important because it helps your metabolism and gives you energy in the morning. For lunch, I'm not sure what kind of snacks you have but definitely stay away from chips and cookies. Yogurt sounds good, but try eating something else to go along with it, like a plain bagel, or a large piece of bread. Also make sure you're drinking enough milk, and taking a vitamin which will help give you more nutrients.
You said that you're 5'9 and 144 pounds. You're definitely NOT fat. You are a very tall girl and tall girls generally weigh more than short girls. You can't expect to weigh 100 pounds when you're that tall because alot of the weigh comes from your bones and muscle. It is literally not likely for someone 5'9 to weigh less than around 130 pounds. You're actually thinner than average! Most girls that tall weigh around 160+ pounds.
Here's something I very recently found out- eating snacks between meals helps to boost your metabolism and prevent you from over-eating later. Keep eating 3 light meals a day, but between meals (especially lunch & dinner) try to have a snack. Pretzels, Bananas, Apples, Animal Crackers, Granola Bars & Quaker Rice Snacks are very good snacks that are usually less than 100 calories. They will help your metabolism and help to keep you full for longer.
It's great that you're exercising! I exercise too, about 60 minutes a day. You'd be suprised how many calories you burn from that! But in an hour, depending on what you're doing and how hard you're doing it, you can burn up to 900 or more calories. But make sure you're eating enough. You NEED to eat to be able to work out. Food is like fuel. I know when I don't eat much and I feel hungry, it's impossible for me to get a good work out.
I feel very guilty if I even eat one cookie. I feel like I failed at eating well and I sometimes just give up and eat 10 more cookies. This is pretty normal for anyone. Stress has alot to do with it. But you know what? Don't feel guilty. Instead of totally cutting out candy, cookies, and junk food, allow yourself to have 2 or 3 "bad" things a day. Let yourself have 2 cookies a day. Or 1 cookie and 2 pieces of candy. You have to let yourself have a little junk food because if you don't, you will eventually give up and eat a ton of it. And anyways, a basic chocolate chip cookie is about 70 or 80 calories. Just think of how tiny that is, if you burn up to 800 calories an hour!
Hang in there, because you can't live your life obsessing over calories and working out every 5 seconds. On special occasions, you CAN pig out! Just work it off the next day. This is something that I battle with everyday, so you're not alone. :] [ twistedsister17's advice column | Ask twistedsister17 A Question ]

NO OFFENSE, because I'm giving you MY opinion about what I think. I am 5"10 and weigh 130, and I'm not super skinny either. I think you could stand to lose a couple pounds. Good Luck!! && Tell me how it works out. [ kenidean's advice column | Ask kenidean A Question ]
illdomybest answered Saturday February 3 2007, 7:05 pm: As long as your eating when your hungry and not eating when your full then your ok. what you wrote seems like that would be enough to fill someone. Its ok to diet and eat right as long as your not starving yourself or throwing up or using laxatives to get thin then dont worry about. Some people are just like that some people think if your not doing something the way they are then its wrong. Maybe it makes them feel self conscious so they try to draw attention to you or maybe there jealous if your starting to look better then them or maybe they just dont really know what theyre alking about. The point is as long as you are eating when your hungry and stopping when your full its normal. If you are dieting or just trying to stay in shape then thats ok as long as your not starving, trowing up,or using laxatives. You cant push yourself into an eating disorder its something people choose to do and it doesnt sound like you are choosing to do so. But dont be terrified to eat if you are hungry. Yes ive been in this situation to before...im petite so when ever i wasnt eating and other people around me were or if i ate like a little snack people would make a big deal of it but it was just because i wasnt hungry and smaller then them. So i just ignored them because sometimes people say stuff just to get attention or to make other people feel bad because their insecure or just because someones diffrent. Ignore them and do what suits you as long as your eating when your hungry and stopping when your full then your healthy. [ illdomybest's advice column | Ask illdomybest A Question ]
