I have so many questions about cheerleading and now that you told me you were a coach, I'd like to know what they're looking for! What do the coaches like that stand out? And about when you're cheering, the positions for your hands? Is it always a certain way, or what?

Almost all coaches will give you a chance even if your are not perfect but they see that you are willing to try very hard to learn what you need to know. You should always have a smile on your face. If something is too hard for you don't say I can't do it. Just try your hardest. No coach likes a negative additude. Be as loud as you can it's not a time to be shy at all. When I was in 8th grade I was already on the team since 5th grade but we all had to try out every year. It was my turn to stand up and do the routine by myself and the room was dead quiet, just as I stood up I farted really loud, so embarassing, I was mortified, but I stood up like nothing happened and did my routine. When I got home is when I let the embarassment kick in. It was horrible. I hope nothing like that happens to you, but I just wanna let you know that things happen and you can't let them get to you. Don't worry about what the other girls say to you. If they tell you you're not as good as them and you probably won't make it, that's probably jealousy on their part. I've seen it happen and had it happen. Also find girls on the squad who have cheered before and ask them if they can help you before tryouts so you have an idea of what to do. Always keep your body and arms stick straight. NO floppy arms in cheerleading, that just looks sloppy. On my squads we always kept oun hands in fists on our hips when standing, it just looks nicer when everyone has their arms the same. Keep your elbows touching or close to touching your body while clapping don't let your arms flail all over the place. Again all squads are different but relatively the same. If there is anything else you want to know just send me a message. [ phillysprincesss's advice column | Ask phillysprincesss A Question ]
