So I want to punk-out an old pair of jeans I have without ruining them. Ideally, I'd like to be able to cover the jeans with a spattering pattern with bleach, but I don't want to mess up and make more holes than I already have. How can I bleach some spots without the bleach eating through and dissolving the denim? How do I do it, and how long should it take? Keep in mind I'm also going to be adding some pins and ribbons to make them look really funky and rocking. Any other tips and tricks are appreciated.
Thanks so much!
K
Also, my friend bought a pair of jeans with plain back pockets and used one of those bleach pins to do a cute design on them before washing them. It was REALLY cute and they look expensive. So maybe you could try that? Just make sure, whatever you do, that you "experiment" on a piece of denim or other fabric to make sure it comes out okay. Don't want to ruin a perfectly good pair of jeans. :) [ opinionated06's advice column | Ask opinionated06 A Question ]

Firstly, I have bleached several pairs of my jeans [accidentally and just out of boredom] before and I can safely say that the bleach isn't some kind of fabric eating monster. What I did:
for small spots: I had a cup of bleach and a q tip. dip the q tip in the bleach and dot
wherever you want the spot on your jeans.
for larger spots: use a cotton ball, but otherwise, same procedure.
[tip]you might want to wear plastic gloves while you're doing this, but if you don't, be sure not to try to get any bleach on your hands--and if you do, be SURE to wash it off with warm [not hot, it drys your hands out] water and soap.
When I redid a pair of my jeans, i found alot of old buttons off of random things [like some places when you buy a shirt, skirt, dress, pants-whatever they come with extra buttons] and i stitched those on near a pocket or something--it was cute. :]
It's best to do a little, see if you like it- do more- if you don't-stop.
