hair dyes/rinses

Question Posted Friday January 5 2007, 10:07 pm

I have red hair...but I want to dye it brown. I dont know HOW it will look though but Ive been told Id look good with darker hair because Im not a normal redhead (aka im not pale..i have the skin pigment to be able to tan.) But, I dont want to go to a hairdresser and have them dye it because if I dont like it, Ill be STUCK WITH It. I heard something about rinses.. What are they and how do they work..? How long do they last and where can I get them?

I have dyed my hair for at least 15 years. My advice to you is:

If you dye your hair brown, you won't get rid of the red, fyi. Brown hair color contains red, so if you go with, say, dark brown, your hair will be dark reddish brown. But that's not saying it won't look good. It's only saying your hair won't be just brown. The same goes with pretty much any color you use. Take great care if you ever decide to go blonde.

Now, for a rinse, I assume you don't want something permanent.

AVOID any box that says on the top 'Number 3,' which means permanent. It should specify that it is a permanent hair color. Put that back on the shelf where you found it.

Try casting. You should be able to choose from a variety of brands. Just make sure before you put it in your shopping cart that it states on the box "rinses out." It will most likely have a rinse out range of 20 washes.

If you are inexperienced:
Always follow the instructions to a T.

Always read the entire instruction sheet before you even think about using a hair color product.

Always pay particular mind to warnings and precautions. Such as, do not use on facial/body hair, do preform an allergy test.

Always go to a professional if you mess up your hair. I promise, you won't be able to just fix it.
