Sounds like an instant heat pack I've used with patients. You tweak a metal disc in a gel pack and the gel heats up and becomes a solid. It's some chemical reaction you're causing which makes the gel become supersaturated, releasing heat and causing consolidation of the gel. After the chemical reaction is over, you usually boil it for 10 minutes or so and it's reset and ready for the next use. They're great things to have, in my opinion. Is there a manufacturer's name on it? I'd bet they have instructions for how to use it. Meanwhile, enjoy having warm hands! :)
