Sleeping disorder?

Question Posted Tuesday January 2 2007, 4:34 pm

I've noticed that sometimes when I can't fall asleep and I get very few hours of rest,I don't have any problems the next day. Then, other times I'll get enough/a lot of sleep and I'll end up feeling drowsy and sluggish all day.Could someone explain this?

People don't need many hours of sleep to function normal. In fact, the longer you sleep, the more drowsy and sluggish you will feel all day because you overslept. The ideal amount of hours to sleep is 9 hours and 15 minutes. Also, when you sleep longer, your body goes into a deeper sleep, making it harder to wake up fully -- and when you don't get as much sleep, it's not as hard to wake up because your body isn't in a deep state of sleep.

I think it has to do with REM states. Your sleep goes in cycles, so if you wake up near the end of the cycle, you feel rested, but if it's in the middle you're still tired. I have that problem too, and I just am really particular about when I go to bed and wake up so i always get the same amount of sleep.

I am the same exact way! Im just the kind of person that likes to go to bed late and even though its kind of hard getting up in the morning, I feel less drowsy during the day. Its pretty normal, but everyones different. Everyone has a different number of hours they prefer to sleep. Theres nothing wrong with you. Its just when you sleep more, it gets harder and harder to stay up because you've been asleep so long that your body has been on "rest mode." And if you sleep a lot, your body will get used to this and it will be harder to wake yourself up from the groggy, drowsy feeling. Go to bed later at night if you have to.
