Question Posted Saturday December 30 2006, 6:09 pm
how can i get my hair to stay straight? its about at the bottom of my shoulder blades in the back, and in the front its like at the top of my chest. its naturally really thick and curly. i already blow dry it as straight as i can get it, then straighten it with a Conair flat iron. it looks really good when i first do it, then then it gets wavy or poofy as the day goes on. i put gel in it to try to smooth it out after i straighten it. ahh!
also, whats a really good straightener that i can get for under about $40 [i know i wont get a REALLY good one for that price, but whats the best for that range] that i dont have to order?
advice_babey answered Sunday December 31 2006, 4:45 pm: my hair is the same way. thick and curly. well my suggestio is not a conair straigbhtener. idk why but they seem not to work that well. my straightener was 130, but i had a revlon straightener for two years. it still works, i just dont want it lol but its white with gold plates. the heat settings go up to abou 27? not degrees but there are 27 heat settings. mine was 15 dollars. they work really good. and for the pooff. go to the store and get anti frizz and sunsilk straightening syrum[sp?] [ advice_babey's advice column | Ask advice_babey A Question ]

i don't know about the iron as i am English and i have GHDs which are the best hair irons we have here so i don't even investigate here, never mind in America.
however there are several things you could try, such as straightening serums and straightening brushes (like a clamp with bristles between used as a brush on either side to dry it with.
why don't you try managing your hair rather than straightening it all the time. i have always dreamed of curly or straight hair but it has been rebelliously wavy with kinks all my life. with my straighteners curling can also be acheived and this is as nice as straightening, but more unique.
to manage your curly hair you could try serums to make it sleek so it looks beautifully curly followed by hair spray rather than straight like everybody else. also, it is a fact that well styled, naturally curly hair left curly suits the face better than artificially straightened hair because it is your own and it is right for you. so try nice curls rather than straight hair, you never know, you might just like it.
KatieKinns702 answered Saturday December 30 2006, 9:43 pm: Ok well I have naturally "relaxed" hair so I might not be able to relate, but i have done my sister's hair ((she has reall curly nd thick hair too))
Well when I do her hair I always ask her to wash it about an hour or so in advanced ((or ou can wash it the night before))
Then while its still wet I put some anti frizz in ((something from "TRESemme' is what I would recomend))
Let your hair air dry that way it doesnt get frizzy or poofy from the blow dryer.
When you begin to straighten your hair, since it is thick, straighten it in layers. ((you know clp some up, straigthen, take some down, etc. this way you cn straighten the peices individuley.))
FYI: dont take too much hair when you straighten a peice.
As far as a cheap and good straighten that you dont have to order goes, I use something ceramic from CONAIR.
DOs: Get a straightener with high heat settings to stiffen the hair.
DONTs: dont get a "wet dry" striaghtener (they tend to make hair poofy and frizzy))
dont touch your hair too much after you straighten it ((the moisture from your hair messes up the hair and mkes it poofy.
Dont straighten your hair on humid days.
Mini_Cutie answered Saturday December 30 2006, 6:56 pm: Hehehe :-) Ok well it really depends on the stairghten if you have lots of hair you will need a more expesces hair stairghten meaning it will be hotter (210* degrees. also there is shampoos that can help you keep you hair after you stairghtened it so maybe try a stairgheten shampoo before doing your hair
