Question Posted Wednesday December 27 2006, 4:50 pm
today i just started going on a diet-- but it's nothing like a major/extreme/aneroxic diet. i would like to lose 14 pounds quick. today i started to run on my tredmill for 25 minutes, the speed was 4.3, i ran 1.52 miles, burned 255 calories, and 79.7 fat burned (whatever that means lol). well if i continue to do this 6 times a week, how long would it take me to lose my 14 pounds? thanks!
Future Mistake no.2- You're going to burn yourself out and become even more unrealistic when things don't happen the way you want them to happen. You're going to cut back on your food even more because you see what you're doing isn't producing instant results and your diet is going to crash and any weight you lose in the mean time will be put on again...I can tell by reading your question- I work with people like yourself all the time (That's not a bad thing by the way). However this future mistake is preventable:
What do I think? I think you should eat cleaner; not less and just relax and know that if you stay with it you will lose 14 lbs...definitely not in a week probably not in a month- if you want to keep 14 lbs off at least. It takes time..you don't have to listen to what I am saying but it's the truth..take it easy; all in due time. When you first start out it's easy to gain/lose the "Freshman 15" because you aren't used to it and you can just as easily gain it all back. [ MikeCFT's advice column | Ask MikeCFT A Question ]
BitsandPieces answered Wednesday December 27 2006, 6:51 pm: Losing weight quickly is not necessarily the best or safest way to lose weight and it usually will not stay off. A couple pounds per week is much more of an attainable and safe goal. Drink lots of water and continue to eat a healthy balanced diet, or you could really mess up your immune system and metabolism and end up burning calories slower and risk sickness. To burn more calories you need to build up muscle as well as do an aerobic activity a few times a week for about 30minutes. The scale is a poor determinator of fat loss, so use a tape measure around your waist instead. The scale can't tell the difference between fat loss, muscle loss or water loss. Exercise is great, just don't forget that it is only one part of a healthy lifestyle and should not be misused. Good luck and stay healthy!
