A couple of clean nighties and a cardigan to put round your shoulders should also be included. Tissues, facial wipes and a drink to sip throughout labour may also help. Pack your bag several weeks before your due date and place it in view of your front door. That way you can grab it on the way out.
Baby needs nappies, clothes, blankets, and if the hospital doesn't supply it - cotton wool for washing baby's face and a small flannel for the other end.
As YoungGrandma said - a car seat is essential for taking your newborn home in.

*Edit
You will need a car seat. You will probably just carry baby out to the car in your arms. Where you
will be picked up there may be a line of cars waiting. Probably best to have seat already in car.
As for baby blankets, the usually give you some of those at the hospital, along with a diaper bag. Of course if you want to bring your own you can. And an outfit for the baby too if you'd like. They give them what they have on as well. :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]
