As with distractions, study in a quiet area, where it's not messy. Listen to some classical music, since it's proven to get you to concentrate more. To help you study better, study for a full 45 minutes and take a 15 minute break to stretch, grab a snack, or something to drink, then sit back down for another 45 minutes. Well really you don't have to do 45 minutes but whatever you feel is better. But take breaks. Don't study for long periods of time. Your brain can get exhausted and you can forget the material you read over either within minutes or by tomorrow.
1) Read over notes. Go over ONLY the important main stuff, and the stuff you know will be on the test. Even if some small things will be on there, you can lose little points compared to if you miss major materials, and you can miss many points. So concentrate on important stuff; forget the little stuff. If you're not sure what will be on the test (which can happen) go over what you think is the most important. Take hints from what the teacher told you in class. Think about what the teacher went over the most or hearing your teacher say, "this might be on the exam", keep that in mind.
2) Try to find a few extra minutes, and make flash cards. Use step one and make flash cards to write down only the important stuff. Writing it down, and writing helps you subconsiously remember the material later. This is also an advantage when you are in a rush.
3) Don't stress over it! Get a good night's sleep. Eat a nutritious breakfast (especially foods HIGH in protein which is "brain food" boosting memory in the brain) You can find protein in meat (ham & cheese bagel sandwich or some fish) Poultry like eggs has a significant amount of protein, so make some eggs in the morning. Avoid caffeine and sugar; stick with OJ, water, or milk.
4) If it's possible, brink a bottle of water with you, or chew some gum. This keeps you alert and awake during the test.
Hope I helped! Good luck with the exams! =] ]
