When you start, start slowly. Start by wearing some lipgloss and mascara, maybe eyeliner. Good luck! [ epicadvice's advice column | Ask epicadvice A Question ]

I didn't wear it to school but once to my school's Open House i wore hot pink lipstick and yellow-gold eyeshadow. It took me until about freshman year to learn how to really do it well. Start small! Daimeera answered Thursday December 14 2006, 9:29 pm: I started late in grade 10. Before that, I didn't even wear any to dances (not that I went to many). And my classmates tended to bug me to wear it, so I of course had to wait until they STOPPED bugging me to actually give in because I'm stubborn like that.
But even now I don't wear any, more often than not. And my skin is far from perfect, but I don't care; I don't wear makeup because it can be a pain. If I'm going somewhere to an appointment or something, I do, but if it's just out for a walk, there's no point.
If you want to start, then start. I suggest starting out gradually and practicing at home, but IF you planned on doing something more dramatic, after the holidays is probably ideal because you've had a break from everyone, so it doesn't seem so oddly sudden.
