I have major cramps during my period and sometimes i even cry cuz they hurt so much. What can i do to stop or make the cramps better? I cant take advil or tylenol or anything at school so i need something that will last all day and/or night. And i live with my dad so i need some advice on talking to him about stuff like this.

Boy do I know all about bad cramps. When I have my period I get them terribly. Before you leave for school take either motrin or midol (I would recomend motrin though because it usually lasts 6-8 hours) depending on your size, for menstrual stuff some doctors may let you take up to four tablets. Also when your at home after school its best to just take it easy. Use the heating pad and take warm baths. Hopefully this will help it to not be so painful. As for talking about it with your dad, it will probably be easier for you if you can treat it as if its not awkward to talk about even if it is. Just say dad before I go to school I need to take some motrin or whatever cause I have some bad cramps. If your not comfortable saying that at first you could even just say you need to take it for stomach pains. Hope I helped and good luck with everything

It's totally normal to have really bad cramps, even to the point that you want to cry. Since you can't take medications at school, I'd take some Mydol or something before heading out to school. It'll last temporarily.. if the cramps come back and they're really bad, have a rest. Go to the nurse, and explain your situation. They're really nice...several years ago I had terrible cramps and went to the nurse, so she filled a rubber glove with hot water (like a water balloon, which I put on my stomach, and she let me lie down in a room for a while.
Here are some things you could do to relieve cramps:
-drink herb tea
-use a thermal, hot pad (drugstore), or use mini heat pads
-some excersizes can also help.
Oh, about talking to your dad about this stuff...it's personal info., so you don't have to delve into a lot. You can simply say you've got women's problems, and he'll understand right away. Or, if he ever asks why you're in pain or whatever, even saying you're on your period is ok.. Men understand more than we give them credit for. [ ciao77's advice column | Ask ciao77 A Question ]
