What can I actually talk about with my boyfriend?

Question Posted Wednesday December 6 2006, 9:51 pm

I've been dating my boyfriend for quite a few years..and while he's in another country right now, we always talk online, sometimes over the phone.

But the thing is, I never can talk about anything. Deeply I mean, besides my little problems, and the rest of our conversations are: how was your day, what'd you do, what're you doing now, what're you doing later, us flirting, us planning what to do when he can come back to see me...and you get the picture.

He's quite intelligent, and I'm not an idiot...I just don't know a lot, or I guess I might not get correct information. My boyfriend always gets bothered because I can never actually seem to talk about things...or when he offers to talk about things like politics or history I don't want to because I don't know a lot and I don't want things to end up in arguements because he's....opinioted.

So just...what can I talk about that doesn't make me look so stupid? Or just talk about to him with conversations?

I may not be the biggest help on this problem. I don't get into to many conversations myself!

I will tell you, being married to an opinionated man...they LOVE to argue their point. You can learn a lot by listening to them too and will be able to jump in and argue your point sooner or later. And what sounds as if they are mad at you, they aren't.
So you could talk about those things if you wanted.

Other than that you could talk about friends and family. And there is noting wrong with flirting or planning.

You could talk about movies or TV shows you like.
Save up some good jokes or articles you read online and send him a link while talking online.
Then you can discuss it.

You could have him make an advice column and then you would have plenty of "did you read that question!" conversations.

So long as you are talking about anything you will do OK. Hope he comes home soon! :)
