Question Posted Thursday November 30 2006, 7:33 pm
Is there such a thing as originality in style or having a unique sence of style? I say it's a rare quality to have and when I see coutless people on their profiles(myspace, xanga, livejournal, ect.) saying they have a great sence of style it stuns me. Latley every girl is wearing the same retro leggings, mini skirt, long tee's, and flats- what is this? Style? Doesn't have a great personal style mean that you have your own way to wear clothes, a way that wasn't already visited in the 80's and now reborn. It's pathetic- the 2000's. In the 60's it was hippi, in the 70's it was polyester, and in the 80's it was skin tight and extra long.
I guess my question is... will someone show me a picture of someone with style? Someone who doesn't fallow the trends but can mix current clothing into their own? A picture of someone who doesn't think that hollister or abercrombie is 'style'?
well to start with to have a sense of style means you can choose what you want to wear not paying attention to the trends, but also to be able to wear something others may think is crazy and then the next season it will be the hottest thing on the runway. The olsen twins have an amazing sense of style, like seriously that bohemian look (personaly will never like) that mary-kate rocked is now all over the runways, and hannah olivennes is really good too. WEll i hope i helped. [ VolleyGirl1234's advice column | Ask VolleyGirl1234 A Question ]

They buy American Eagle sweatshirts because they're comfortable & not because "everyone else is wearing them!". They know (or THINK they know =P) what works and what doesn't. Like, some people can pull off leggings & a miniskirt, but some can't. Certain trends from the 8Os lasted; others didn't. For most, there was a good reason haha.
So basically, someone with a sense of style isn;t a slave to any one brand, wears clothes because they WANT to, and doesn't follow the crowd and care what other people think about it.
Thief answered Thursday November 30 2006, 10:46 pm: whoa man, finally someone who actually understands what IM going through. You have a ary valid point about this whoole 80's retro bull shit. It seems that anyone who csan wear skin tight jeans and mini skirts that make you looke lik e whore is aparantly "style" unfortunitly i don't have a picture of my style, but i can tell you that style is up to the person and personality.
The new trend of todays teens are dressing up like a skank, preppys, a doushbag, or emo. These brands, hollister and abercromie anr't individual style, just group style. Individual style is something that, that ONE person can wear with confidence. For example, i wear goggles, i've worn em' when they were "weren't cool" Yes i know some people say it's from some anime but no im sorry it's not.
That's my individual style along with my personality, those two alone are my style that no one can copie or possible comprehend. I think it's the very outworldly and unuiqe things that make it a style but then again it could be anything. Well hop this helps and take care [ Thief's advice column | Ask Thief A Question ]
