Losing Weight

Question Posted Monday November 27 2006, 5:18 pm

I am female and 16 years old. I am over 100 pounds overweight. I am getting concerned about my health because I have low metabolism, poor circulation. and mood swings -- all probably connected to my weight and my diet (which isn't the healthiest, but I try).

I am asking for quick tips and tricks on losing weight. I understand losing weight takes time, so I am not asking for rapid weight loss, since that's potentially unhealthy for anyone. Maybe 1 or 2 pounds a week. Just simple guidelines to follow.

Also, I do not want a full meal plan, like what foods to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Just tips and tricks to remember when next time eating under these conditions:

*At home for regular meals
*Going out to eat
*During the Holidays
*School Lunch/Breakfast

Thank you in advance!

Also note, I will take off points for people who don't answer the question properly or who writes in severely poor grammer.

I'm sure that whatever I will write everyone else has already; if you are willing to pay for support and help, having a food diary, and sticking to a meal plan I think Weight Watchers would really help. My mother was on it and she loved it, eventhough she only loosed about 1-2 pounds a week if you think about it thats 52 pounds (about) in the course of one year. And the fact that you are overweight it will come off faster in the beginning then it will stabalize after you have been loosing.

you can probably read up about their program at their website.

Well i used to be just like you. I wanted to lose weight. I tried to go to the gym twice a week and eat healthy foods. Now I am skinny and very healthy. You should do the same thing I did. Get back to me as soon as you can!

Home/Regular Meals:
- eating off smaller plates. This really does work & helps keep your portions in check
- Measure stuff. Know what 1 cup of Cheerios actually looks like.
- Keep healthy alternatives in the house- carrot sticks instead of Cheetos, 1% milk instead of whole, etc.
- Don't completely deprive yourself of icecream, soda, chips, and candy.. just limit yourself & STICK TO IT! A handful of chips or a few M+M won't sabotage your diet at all.

Going Out To Eat:
- portions are almost always HUGE! So eat one half to one third of what's on the plate. Take it home (almost all restuarants have this option) or share with someone else.
- @ buffets: take small portions of each thing you want. If you come across something gross, don't eat the rest of it, just leave it! Save those calories for someting else.
- ask for dressings/high-fat sauces on the side.

During the Holidays:
- don't fill up on unhealthy appetizers. Hang around the veggie platter, and don't pig out on cookies & fudge (which will just make you feel sick later anyways!)
- If you go back for seconds, don't completely fill your plate

School Lunch/Breakfast:
- take your own! Nothing's better than your favorite sandwich on wheat bread (wayyy better than white) while everyone else is chowing down on greasy pieces of cardboard the school claims is pizza.
- Got a deli line/salad bar? Take advantage of it! Tuna, turkey, chicken salad, even ham is good for you! (just keep the condiments under control)
- Drink milk or juice instead of soda or a slush (unless the slushes are made of juice like my school's are)

General:
- Cutting out refined flour such as Wonder bread and white rice will be very beneficial. You'll get more nutrients from the food & they're more filling. Plus, this'll keep your glycemic index (blood sugar) under control better, so you won't "Crash" in an hour and eat anything in sight.
- Daily, moderate exercise is key to dieting success. It doesn't have to be three hours of cardio, just go for a walk! Anything to get moving.
- Don't "punish" yourself with exercise. Think of it as improving yourself. You'll feel way better too because of endorphins.
- Be patient. The weight will come off if you truly try and don't give up.

best of luck! If you want to know anything else, feel free to ask (I'm in a similar boat here, I need to lose 65 pounds & I'm about halfway there. So I know a lot about this stuff now)

ok what helps some people is when your about to reach for the junk food to write down the stuff your about to eat. seeing the things your about to put in your body will make you realize there bad for you and youll reach for a healthier snack. at restaurants etc... think of the list mentally in your head instead of getting that cheeseburger get grilled chicken or fish. and one of the key items in weight loss is exercise. i know we all hate it but exercise and healthy foods are the key to success!!!

hope i helped:)
