Topics for conversation?

If you know a guy has a crush on you but you two have never talked, how do you go about talking to him? We do not have any classes together but I see him in the halls between blocks. I am barely friends with a few of his and he doesn't know any of mine because he is new.
Is there anything I can say to him to make conversation in the hall? I think it's kind of strange to say hi to someone you don't know then walk away.

aah i get ya, one way is to pretend that you forgot where you're going and ask him what building's where. Also if you could just bump into him and play dumb. "have we met before?" or " hey you're that new kid right?" and then BAM there's your intro into anything.
