Get sand paper and rub them on your jeans! It rips them without making a huge hole and they end up looking really good :]I do it all the time

ahh ive done this so many times haha

you have to take a razor blade and stretch your jeans out then slice them with the blade, so that they will make a nice slit, then you take sandpaper and rub them until you start seeing the strings appear and they'll break, then you throw them in the wash and they fuzz them so it looks like you just survived a tornado in them, haha

and if you want the white spots, take bleach and splatter them on in the areas you want, or dab dots with a bleach pen =]

Put bleach on them

Use scissors to cut holes

Use a knife to rip threads

Rub them against something such as cement

Use a (cheese) grater on them

You will be able to fad, rip, snag and much more with those few techniques. Happy distressing! :)
