Chemistry (Atomic radius)

Question Posted Tuesday November 21 2006, 12:04 am

I am pretty confused on this. The question is
Which ion in each pair has a smaller atomic radius?
Ba2+ or I-

Can anyone explain this or give me a website to refer to?

according to my research the bromine ion should be smaller than the iodine from the chart i found (see link below)

seems to indicate that atomic radius is smallest in the upper right hand corner of the periodic chart and largest in the lower left hand corner. Since Br is directly above I it should have a smaller radius. There might be rules i am not aware of but this is my best guess.
