I need help

Question Posted Sunday November 12 2006, 8:15 pm

So I am 13, but look like an 18 year old. There alot of guys who like me that are like 19. What should I do? I hate people my age, and act older. Any advice?

No matter how old a person looks, there are still differences on the inside when it comes to age. For example, at 13 you probably are not in high school yet. A 19 year old is probably already finished with high school.

While this may not seem like that big a deal, I would say it probably is. When it comes to dating, I think about more about stages than actual ages. It's important that people match up with potential partners who are at a similar stage to them. High school is a big chunk of time, and a lot of changes can happen in that time.

In the longrun, the balance of power in a relationship is more equal when people are in a similar stage. Chances are you'll have more in common with the other person as well, including similar lifestyles which will make you more compatible.

I can understand that right now you may feel more mature than other people your age - and you might very well be. Still, there may be a few other people who feel exactly the same way as you. At 13, some people are still children while others are really thoughtful and mature - there's a wide gap. Why not see if you can find some guys who seem to have the maturity you are seeking?

I would suggest they would probably be more mature, relatively speaking, than a 19 year old who was interested in dating a 13 year old.

Best of luck.
