You could always talk 2 him about sports and how great he was in the last game that you played. Also if you did something better then he did, you could give him tips on how to improve

If you guys are playing a sport, ask him a question about it that you might not understand, maybe even get him to help you out with kicking the ball or whatever. And flirt with him lightly while you guys talk about it or do it.
Then just talk more and more about the sports or whatever you're doing that day. If your teachers' mean or something, maybe make a remark or a joke about her and try and make him laugh.
Maybe even make a comment about your next class. Just be like,"Ugh, I'm so happy though after gym's over, cause then I got lunch to look forward to. What do you got next?" and talk to him about his classes and your classes and your teachers you might have the same teachers and tests and everything.
Then slowly, just start to change topics to music, interests ( what do you guys do after school ). Even though it MAY seem awkward, just keep talking to him. The more you talk, the less awkward it starts to become. You just sort of have to make yourself talk, and push yourself out there.
