Atkins' diet Has anyone else tried the TRUE Atkins'(no more than 20 net carbohydrates a day for the first two weeks, etc) diet? If so, did it work? Did you excercise while on the diet?

Blackbelt's right, it is unhealthy in the long run. While you do reduce carbs, you run the risk of high fat and cholesterol which isn't all that healthy in large amount either.
I tried it once to help out someone I knew who was trying Atkins, and let me tell you - after about only 1 week, I was seriously jonesing for carbs. I was getting hunger pangs for the most basic carbs, like even saltine crackers sounded like something James Beard whipped up. In the end my friend quit, though I had already binged on potatoes and pasta long before he got to that point.
I exercised a bit, but I dont think that is what killed me in the end...I imagine I could have exercised more without too much bother. What got me, I think, was trying to avoid carbs at every turn rather than eating carbs simply in moderation. All I did was go cold-turkey, and eventually I said "Screw this I need carbs", and I binged. I did lose a little weight, but I bet I could have done much better if I just had eaten more vegetables and cut down on the carbs somewhat. ]
My dad did it, but I didn't.
He lost 45 pounds while he was on it, so it does work... but he gained it back once he started eating a normal number of carbs again.
You should always combine your diet with exercise for optimal results.
The only thing is that Atkins is very unhealthy over long periods of time, so I don't personally endorse it. ]
