Third strike

Question Posted Saturday October 28 2006, 11:23 pm

For baseball, if there's a runner on first base and the batter strikes out on a wild pitch that hits the ground, can he run for first if the runner is stealing second?

Thanks.

Catcher either has to tag the batter or throw to first in that situation. If the throw isn't on time, the batter is safe. It isn't ruled a hit.

I'm pretty sure you can. It's called "drop third strike", and the runner isn't really stealing second, it's like a hit basicly, only not really lol.

Hope I helped. :)

The batter can ONLY run if he's hit with a pitch(a walk), gets 4 balls & walks, or hits a ball and its not caught on a fly. The runner at first can steal a base no matter what, usually.

If the ball is caught on a fly though, the runner would have to go back to his base or he could be thrown out.

But as for the batter, if he struck out, thats it. No more pitches/swings & no running =]
