Okay, well I'm 14/f and I'm using pads and I hate it since a)it's really noticable to carry around b)it's very annoying c)it's disgusting to take care of.
Well, I want to use tampons. And i have some questions on it(only for people who have used tampons and pads..or just tampons):
1. Is there a chance of it leaking (like frequently so that your undies are stained with blood)
2. How often is there a chance of it getting stuck (like the string used to pull it out snapping before you can pull it out)
3. Is it much cleaner and easier to use than pads?
4. What brand is the best?
Also, I don't know how to tell my mom that I want to use tampons instead of pads.
its_melissa_DuH answered Sunday October 22 2006, 4:24 pm: 1.) yes, theres a chance. just don't put it in and change it like 8 hours later. change it every 3 hours, or whenever your flow is heavy, change it sooner.
2.) there is like a 99.99999999999999% chance that the string will break. they are soo strong! just dont buy them from like the dollar store or anything lol because the string might break
3.) i think tampons are wayyyyyyy better then pads. think about it, when your wearing pads your sitting in your blood lol. pretty gross. but i actully love tampons. and yes, they are easier. they can be a hassle at first, but they're worth it.
as for your mom, when the samples arrive in the mail she'll get the idea that you want to try tampons. or when your at the store with her just drop a box of tampons in the cart and if she asks you, say is it ok if i try them out? good luck and hope i helped!

After a while you will begin to know how long YOU need to keep your tampon in for your flow. DO NOT leave a tampon in for more than 8 hours. Usually they won't leak, though. If you are uncomfortable you can wear a pantyliner underneath incase of leakage until you get used to tampons.
2. The string is sewn in and I have actually tried to break it off with my hands and it is almost impossible.
3. Yes, your vagina does not have extra menstrual fluid, you can flush your tampons (or throw them away if you like) and they are much more comfortable. You can't even feel it, usually.
4. Personally, I like tampx compak the best, but everybody is different. I like tampax compak because they are comfortable and small (so people can't find them in my purse). Some people prefer plastic applicators, some prefer cardbord. You can try a few different brands if you want.
As for telling your mom, if she uses tampons she should understand. Even if she doesn't, give her some reasons why you want to use tampons. The reasons that you gave for not wanting to use pads are perfectly valid. You can also add, that they are uncomfortable and hard to do active things in (if you play sports, dance or even take gym in school then tampons will make it easier to do those things comfortably). If you don't know how to approach her you can either wait until it comes up or just pick a moment when you two are alone and tell her that you would like to try using tampons instead of pads. you may think that its embarrassing, but you'd be surprised how understanding moms can be. Good Luck and I hope I helped.
IslandParadise21 answered Sunday October 22 2006, 12:14 am: 1. There is a chance of you leaking, but you can prevent that if you wear a tampon that has a higher absorbancy. If your worried about you leaking, just wear a lightday or small pad on your undies so you don't feel so insecure.
2. There's not really any chance of the string breaking or of it getting stuck. Once, I did hear a story about someone going to the hospital because of the tampon getting stuck too high up in her vagina and the doctor had to remove it(not surgically or anything). You just have to be careful you don't forget its there or anything.
3. It's way cleaner. I used to only wear pads but I got tired of sitting in a thing that holds all my blood. So gross. So I use tampons and feel much cleaner with them. However, I do make many trips to the washroom to make sure I'm not leaking because my flow is pretty heavy. It's really a personal prefererence, I prefer tampons for sure.
4. I like Tampax. My mom used them so she just bought me the same ones. It doesnt really matter, tampons are tampons.
Your mom should understand. She has her period too! I'm pretty sure she must've tried tampson too before. Many girls use them so I dont think it should be an awkward conversation. Just be like, "Mom, I'm tired of using pads, they make me feel dirty and unhygenic. Do you think I can try using tampons?". This way, she can pick the right kind and absorbancy level for you and if you have any questions or problems you can talk to her about it!
MassieBlockx3 answered Sunday October 22 2006, 12:03 am: i feel the same way you do.
to answer all ur questions...
1.yes, you may leak if it's in for a long time and you have a heavy flow , just make sure to change it every 4 to 8 hours to avoid TSS wear a pad or pantiliner just incase you leak it doesn't get all over your panties
2.those strings are soooooo strong i once tried just taking a tampon out of the little thing it's in and just pulling on the string with my hands holding the other part with my other hand and i couldn't do it. they've VERRRRY strong.
3.i think they're cleaner cause you don't have to see all the "stuff" like you do with pads and it doesn't get all over your self.
4.i use playtex gentle glide =] they work very well and are easy ro put it.
and with the mom thing: ummm well i started using tampons in the summer so i would be like "ugh these pads feel like diapers" "i wish i could go swimming" stuff like that and then she's like "ok do you wanna try tampons?"
