Look up Hospice in the local phone book and give them a call. A person who is used to helping families affected by cancer will be able to help. If you are afraid your parents will get freaked out by you needing counseling, it might just be best to have someone else tell them. What you are going through can be expected, and really your Mom and Dad are going to need some help too. It's just that they have probably had to focus on other things right now. You are doing the right thing by seeing a counselor, and your Mom and Dad will most likely be relieved.

you should just flat out tell them the truth. maybe during dinner when you are all together just be like "mom, dad i have something important to tell you." when they say okay then say "i feel like a lot has been going on in my life and i don't know if i can handle it so i went to a conselor and hes going to help me. i think its for the best and i hope you guys understand." yeah im sure they will babble on how proud they are of you for finding a way to deal with things. dont worry parents know how it feels to be down in the dumps and they wont be mad if you need a counselor, who knows maybe they had one too!

They might actually be relieved. They should have notice you're grades already and made a connection with your Dad's cancer. They may not know how to approach you or help you, so its good you took the initiation to help yourself. Just let them know casually or in a letter - or have the counsler let them know if you are uncomfortable.

just calmly sit down with your parents and explain to them what's going on. just let them know that the beginning of this school year has been stressful with your dad getting cancer, and the classes and all, so you've decided to start going to counseling because you just need someone to release all your feelings too and help out with advice and everything. your parents shouldn't freak out ; they'll probably understand you just need someone to help you out a bit and make everything a little less stressed, and i'm sure they'll stick behind you and support you. i hope i helped.

i dont think that your parents will be upset at all with you !! high school is an extremely big change from middle school and that alone kids need counseling on .. and with your dad having cancer (im so sorry) it must be extra hard on you. asking for help is the best way to go and im sure taht both your parents will be very understanding. sit them down and tell them why you like it and why you think you need it to help be more relaxed everyday. hope i helped much <3 & luck
